compiled by Frank Bann et al., June 2000

The first regular meeting of the Chapter for the 1957-58 season was held at the Prescott Hotel on Tuesday October 15th, 1957 with President Charlie Watson presiding. Don Banton reported a proposal to award Carleton University a Donation to further the arts and sciences of heating, ventilating and air conditioning. The amount would be $100 in the form of an Award or Scholarship left to the jurisdiction of the Dean of engineering. The Donation would be annual but must be considered each year by the members. A motion to this effect was tabled by Mr. E Robertson and seconded by Paul Fortier, the motion carried.

During the November meeting it was announced that Mr. J. Klassen was appointed as a member of the Hospital Safety Committee, C.S.A. The speaker for the evening was Mr. W. Peters of the Research Division, Anemostat Corporation, Hartford, Connecticut. His topic “Heating & Cooling with High Velocity Single and Double Duct Systems”.

January’s meeting was another interesting Annual Open Forum night. View minutes of this meeting here.

February’s meeting was during a stormy evening and attendance was low. The speaker for the evening was Mr. D. Ross, a Refrigeration Engineer with a large brewery. Stan Bullis suggested a new form of membership identification be adopted. This would be taken up by the Board of Governors.

At the March meeting it was noted that J. Klassen as Delegate and A. Hargreaves as Alternate would be attending the Winnipeg Regional Meeting. The Nominating committee was elected. The guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Malozzi. His topic “Air filtration”.

At the April meeting President Charlie Watson presented Professor Coates with a $100 Cheque as an award to the University from the local Ottawa Valley Chapter. It was noted at the meeting that J. Klassen as voting delegate would voice the chapter's Vote such that the chapter will remain in the Canadian Region 7. The slate of officers were set forth by the nominating committee. The speaker for the evening program was Mr. Park, assistant metallurgist, Steel Co. Of Canada Ltd. His topic “Fabrication of Pipe”. The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 to enable the members and guests to watch the remainder of the Boston-Montreal Stanley Cup game.

The final meeting of the 1957-58 season was held on May 20th 1958.
J. Klassen reported on the Regional Meeting in Winnipeg. The election of officers for the coming season took place as follows:
