Ottawa Valley ASHRAE Chapter "50 Years of History"

The first meeting of the 1959-60 Chapter season was held at the Cathay House on October 20th 1959 with president Art Hargreaves presiding.
The Chapter's financial statement was reviewed and noted that the total assets were $618.53. President A. Hargreaves announced Society's goal to donate $250,000 to the construction of the new U.E.C. Building in New York. The speaker for the evening was Mr. Stuart Buccanan, field engineer for Johnson Controls Toronto. His topic was on “Field Problems on Cooling and Heating Controls”.
November’s meeting program was “Installation of Oil and Gas fired Burners”. The speaker was Mr. Ken Martin of Martin Industries Toronto.
During January’s meeting a proposal was put fourth for prepaid meals and dues for $18.00. This would be discussed at the next Executive meeting.
January’s meeting was the Annual Open Forum.
February’s meeting speaker was Mr. C.P. Lentz, of the Division of Applied Biology N.R.C.. His topic was “Methods of Freezing Meats”.
At March’s meeting a special guest Dr. John Ruptash the dean of engineering from Carleton University was present. Two student s from Carleton University Engineering were presented with Chapter Donations. The speaker for the evening was Prof. W. Bruce, Chairmen of the Department of Engineering. His topic was “Trends in engineering Education”.
In April Art Gray requested by letter he withdraw from the Board of Governors. The nominations committee presented the nominations for office for the coming season as follows:
President - N. Kirby
Vice-President -P. Fortier
Secretary - J Partington
Treasurer - I. Paterson
Board of Governors - C. Schock, R. McPherson & R. Hipkin
The speaker for the evening was Mr Ray Brunet, a General Contractor. His topic for the evening was “The Construction Industry”.
At May’s meeting it was noted that the Chapter had met its original goal of 100 members. This goal was set in 1952 when the Chapter had been formed with 22 members. The new Chapter officers were elected in by the members as presented. President A. Hargreaves passed the gavel to the new president Noel Kirby.
