The first meeting of the 1962-63 season was held on October 16th 1962 at the Cathay House with President John Partington presiding.
A new aluminum ASHRAE plaque for the front entrance was donated by Department of Mines & Technical Surveys (Earl Mitchell). The speaker for the evening program was Mr. Bob Guthrie, of Barber Coleman Co.. His topic was “Sidewall Outlet Grilles”.
During November’s meeting it was noted that Society will start to pay Delegates and Alternates expenses. The speaker for the evening was Mr. R.M. MacPherson. His topic was “Air Leakage In Buildings”.
At January’s meeting an announcement was made that a new chapter guest attendance record sheet was being used along with a new members attendance records sheet, requesting that members indicated wether they desire monthly notices mailed. The speaker for the evening was Mr. Al Janks, Chief Application Engineer, Walton Laboratories Inc. His topic was “The Importance of Humidification in Residential, Commercial and Industrial Projects”.
At February’s meeting Montreal’s President Mr. Murry Malloy was a special guest. The first Annual Chapter Bonspiel was to be held at the Hunt Club March 6th. Cost per person including dinner was $6.00. The speaker for the evening was Mr. S.N. White, Survival Planning Division, Emergency Measures Organization. His topic was “Habitability of Bomb Shelters”. At the time there were approximately 2000-3000 shelters, mostly private in Canada.
At March’s meeting it was announced that the local team of Al Oakes (skip), Bob Legare, Ian Paterson and Don McKeen won the Annual ASHRAE Montreal Bonspiel. The speaker for the evening program was Mr. N.W. McGunnis of Canadian Westinghouse. His topic was “Electrical Motors”.
At April’s meeting the annual $100 awards to two Carleton University Engineering Students Ross Moore and Doug Hamer were given. The speaker for the evening was Mr. N. Bird, his topic was “Investments”. The following slate of Officers were elected in by the members:
President - I. Paterson
Vice-President - D. McKeen
Secretary - G. Goodkey
Treasurer - C. Schock
Board of Governors - A.Oakes, B. Bates & J. Dugan.
President John Partington passed the gavel over to the incoming president Ian Paterson. Jake Klassen bestowed the usual honors on the new past president and initiated him into the past presidents group. The meeting was followed by the usual election night movies on Dawson City, Harlem Globe Trotters and 1962 Grey Cup.

Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider formulated the earliest ideas of a global computer network in August 1962 at BBN, in a series of memos discussing the "Intergalactic Computer Network" concept. These ideas contained almost everything that the Internet is today.
Chicago Black Hawks goalie Glenn Hall forced to leave a game against the Boston Bruins with a back injury in the first period, during his 503rd consecutive complete game; an NHL record; streak began at the start of the 1955-56 season. Hall played in parts or all of 18 seasons in the NHL.
Ronald Turpin and Arthur Lucas were the last people to be executed in Canada. The method of execution was hanging, the only form of capital punishment ever used in Canada. In 1976, capital punishment for murder was removed from Canada's Criminal Code.
