The following is an edit from the Document entitled
Ottawa Valley ASHRAE Chapter "50 Years of History"
compiled by Frank Bann et al., June 2000

The Chapter Meetings continued at the Cathay House through this Chapter year.

In October, the guest speaker was James Ford, control specialist with Public Works Canada. He made a very persuasive presentation on "The Use of Direct Digital Controls" at the Transport Canada Training Centre in Cornwall.

November's topic was the "National Energy Program" with speaker E. Bell, Director of the National Energy Board. The price of oil was expected to rise from $24/barrel to $70-$80/barrel by 1990.

The speaker for the January meeting was rather unusual - Gord Atkinson, General Manager of the then very popular local radio station CFMO. He gave a very interesting talk with slides, during which he related his experiences meeting stars of the entertainment world in Holywood, Las vegas etc.

In February the topic was "Do's and Don't's of Design Selection and Installation of Solar Energy Systems", with speaker Oliver Foulkes.

"Heat Recovery Equipment" was the topic for the March meeting, with speakers Jack Fitzmorris and Glen Bradley both of Temprite Industries. The plate heat exchanger was the main subject of the speech.

The April the topic was "Tax Incentives in relation to the National Energy Program, and Tax Tips for Individuals", presented by Ken Murray.

May's meeting topic was "General Energy Policy as it relates to the Province of Ontario" with speaker Douglas Carl, Director of Energy Conservation, Ministry of Energy of Ontario. Ray Young turned over the gavel to Roy Beckman, and Past President Mike Acton presented Ray with the Past Presidents Pin.
