The following is an edit from the Document entitled
Ottawa Valley ASHRAE Chapter "50 Years of History"
compiled by Frank Bann et al., June 2000

The 1986-1987 Chapter Year marked the move to Phileas Fogg - a restaurant downstairs in the Metropolitan Life Building. Our Chapter was very vibrant and the Cathay House simply could not provide enough space for the regular meeting attendance.

The meeting minutes are missing for this year but the newsletters are intact and afford the following:

The September meeting topic was "Personal Philosophy of Architecture" and presented by Douglas Cardinal. He had many prestigious projects under his belt including the Canadian Museum of Civilization, and was well known for CADD use in design.

October's meeting topic was "Climatic Testing at NRC" and the speaker was Don Coveney of the National Research Council's Low Temperature Lab.

In November the speaker was André Rinfret of Boutillette Parizeau & Associates. His topic was "Mechanical Challenge to Achieve 'A Dream in the Making'". He spoke about their design work on the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

At January's meeting the program was "Applications of Ground Source Heat Pumps" and presented by Sven Oskarsson, President ASEA-Cantherm.

February's meeting program was a Panel Discussion on "Specifications: Information/Interpretation OR Mis-Information/Mis-Interpretation". Representing Designers: John Davies; Specification Writers: Simon Jol; Suppliers: Harry Atkinson; Contractors: Les Barber & John McAninch. The moderator was Nick Zrymiak.

The National Research Council stepped up to the plate once again for the March meeting, when Dr. MS Rae spoke about the "Lighting Research Program at NRC".

Dave Whittle, Maintenance Supervisor for Hospital Food Services Ontario Inc., spoke about "Refrigeration/Food Preparation" at the April meeting.

May's meeting topic was "Considerations in the Design of Laboratories" with speaker Nicholas Zrymiak, Project Manager, Biological Containment for Facilities Maintenance, Public Works Canada. Presumably, John Dugan turned over the gavel to Simon Jol, and Past President Gabriel Laszlo presented John with the Past Presidents Pin.
