The following is an edit from the Document entitled
Ottawa Valley ASHRAE Chapter "50 Years of History"
compiled by Frank Bann et al., June 2000

The Chapter Meetings continued at Phileas Fogg through this Chapter year.

The meeting minutes are missing for this year but the newsletters are intact and afford the following:

At September's meeting the topic was "The History & Future of Canlands" with speaker Graham Bird P. Eng., Vice President Development, Perez Corporation.

October's program was "The Design and Implementation of Central Control Systems" and the guest speaker was John Samulack of Chilifour, Marcotte & Associates Ltd. He was involved with the control systems at Ottawa University, which had previously won the ASHRAE Energy Award for Region II.

In November the topic was "The Birth of Ottawa Fibre" with speaker Joe Skarzenski. He spoke about the birth and gradual expansion of Ottawa Fibre Inc.

The "Impact of CFC Regulations" was on the radar at January's meeting. The guest speaker was John Smale of Dupont Canada Inc., and he discussed "the present protocol of CFC regulations, probable future regulations, where we are going from here, and what's coming over the horizon."

February's meeting topic was "Smoke Control" with speaker Greg DeLuga of Landis & Gyr Powers. He spoke at length about NFPA 92A. The evening menu was Asian in flavour; unfortunately the February newsletter contained the following limerick announcing Ray Foo Young Night:

Since "Cathay House" it has been quite long
Since then, many a spring has been sprung
We've had roast beef slices
And chicken with spices
And this meal, for old times -
"Ray Foo Young".

Consumer's Gas Company provided the speaker for the March meeting. Bill Hawkins spoke on "Gas Cooling Options" for commercial buildings.

In April, the guest speaker was His Worship Jim Durrell, Mayor of the City of Ottawa. His topic was "The Status of Ottawa".

May's meeting topic was "Indoor Air Quality" with speaker Gemma Kerr, then working with the Building Performance and Systems Group, Public Works Canada. Presumably, Paul Baker turned over the gavel to Bill McKinnon, and Past President Simon Jol presented Paul with the Past Presidents Pin.
