The following is an edit from the Document entitled
Ottawa Valley ASHRAE Chapter "50 Years of History"
compiled by Frank
Bann et al., June 2000
The Chapter Meetings continued at Phileas Fogg through this Chapter year.
The meeting minutes are missing for this year but the newsletters are intact and afford the following:
At September's meeting the topic was "Indoor Air and Water Quality in a Humid Environment" with speaker Dr. Pierre Bourgault, President, Chinook Phi-Beta Corp. He discussed the costs and benefits of dehumidification techniques and technologies, both mechanical and ventilation, in indoor pools, printing plants, laundries etc.
October's meeting topic was "Thermal Recovery in Designated Ventilation Systems - Thermal Energy Storage (Dynamic Ice Harvesting)" and the speaker was Wayne Marsh, President of Team Systems.
Apparently there were meeting in November and January but we have no record of these (sorry).
Jim Larkin, Manager of Service Operations at Consumers Gas, was the guest speaker for February, and his topic was "Gas Code Update Technology" during which he related the newest revisions to the gas codes.
The March meeting program was "A Steam Generating Heat Pump Using HCFC-123" with speaker Jeff Linton of the National Research Council's Low Temperature Lab.
John Gayton, Director of Cogeneration, Public Works Canada, was the speaker for April. He covered topics such as: updates of NUG projects in the National Capital Region; current policies of Quebec and Ontario Hydro with respect to NUG projects, etc.
May's meeting topic was "Fire, Smoke and Ceiling Dampers" with speaker Julian Rochester, Nailor Industries Inc. He covered revised UL and NFPA Standards, and explained what "Dynamic Label" Fire Dampers are. Presumably, Chris Frauley turned over the gavel to Neil Armstrong, and Past President Byron Landry presented Chris with the Past Presidents Pin.
