The Chapter Meetings continued at Phileas Fogg through this Chapter year.
The meeting minutes are missing for this year but the newsletters are intact and afford the following:
At September's meeting the topic was "The C-2000 Program for Advanced Commercial Buildings" with speaker Nils Larsson, Architect, and Program Manager for Canmet's C-2000 Program. The immediate goal of the program was to achieve high performance results in a small number of pilot project buildings, and to transfer the information gained to the industry.
October's program topic was "Energy Performance Contracting and Energy Inventory Award" with speaker Subash Vohra, Director of Engineering and Maintenance of NRC.
The topic for November's meeting was "Focus on Innovation: The Efficiency and Environmental Initiative - A Practical Response to Canada's Energy and Environmental Challenges". The speaker was Philip Jago, acting Chief of Industrial Energy Efficiency Initiative with NRCan.
We turned up the heat in January with "Perimeter Hydronic Radiant Heating" as the topic, and Geoffrey Adair, Product Sales Manager Radiant Panel Systems, Engineered Air as the speaker.
February's program was a forum on "CFC-Free Refrigerant Equipment" with panelists: Mike Premovic of Carrier Canada; Trevor Frith of York International; Al Ward of Snyder General Corp. (McQuay Ltd.); and Eugene Smithart of Trane Co. Moderator was John Smale of Environment Canada. The forum allowed the four companies to present their solutions to the phase-out of CFC-based refrigerants; each speaker was given seven minutes.
In March there were two speakers from the National Research Council. First up was Sherif Barakat from NRC Institute for Research in Construction, and he spoke about the "ASHRAE Research Process and Canada's Contribution". Secondly Jack Mawhinney of the NRC National Fire Laboratory spoke about "Sprinkler Fire Tests and Implications for Zoned Smoke Control".
Don Henning, Senior Advisor to Accommodation Management in the Real property Branch, PWGSC, was the speaker for April. His topic was "Commissioning of Indoor Equipment".
May's meeting topic was "Lt. Colonel By and the Construction of the Rideau Canal" with speaker Laurent Messier, Heritage Consultant, City of Ottawa. Presumably, Ross McIntyre turned over the gavel to Pierre de Gagné, and Past President Neil Armstrong presented Ross with the Past Presidents Pin.

Federal election: Jean Chrétien's Liberals win a majority, defeating Kim Campbell's PCs, which are reduced to two seats. Campbell loses her own seat. The Bloc Québécois form the official opposition. Jean Chrétien sworn in as prime minister on November 4th.
