This new school includes 4 preschool classrooms, 24 regular classrooms, an after school care facility, a library, a gymnasium, multipurpose spaces and administrative offices. This school is a functional building adjusted to meet the needs of young children while minimizing the impact on the environment through the use of sensible construction processes and materials. Three (3) ground source heat pumps combined with 16 wells are used to heat and cool the entire building. High-efficiency natural gas condensing boilers are used to supplement the low temperature hot water heating system during peak winter days. With variable frequency drives installed on all distribution pumps and central air handling systems, all air and water installations operate as a variable flow systems, Energy recovery is installed on all exhaust air system to pre-heat or pre-cool fresh air. CO2 sensors were installed in all classrooms and offices allowing a significant reduction in fresh air while maintaining a high indoor air quality.   The building’s energy model revealed it to be 70,7% more energy efficient than ASHRAE 90.1-2007. Many of the energy efficiency measures implemented during the construction has allowed the building to submit for a LEED® Gold certification. (Certification is pending)

Longfields-Davidson Heights S.S. – Addition
A 6,000 m2, three (3) storey secondary school designed with multiple sustainable features and to OCDSB Guidelines. The facility includes classroom areas, atrium, gathering area, and gymnasium with change room facilities. The building will receive Enbridge and HPNC grants for high efficiency A/C units, energy efficient lighting and use of variable speed drives. Sustainable Features Included:

• Full energy modeling during design with evaluation of systems
• High performance, energy efficient, LED light fixtures
• Energy efficient mechanical systems
• High efficiency condensing boiler & water heaters
• Energy exhaust heat recovery for rooftop units
• Variable speed pumping, fans & compressors
• Full direct digital control systems
• Occupancy sensors for open areas and classrooms
• Photocell and time switch controlled exterior light fixtures integrated with DDC system.
